Two held for using forged papers to obtain drug licence

Rajkot: Bhavnagar special operations group (SOG) has arrested two people in connection with an alleged case of obtaining a medical licence using forged documents and using it to procure and sell prohibited narcotic substances.During a verification drive, police discovered that Bhavesh Dudhela, who had earlier been arrested in connection with the seizure of 1,920 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup by Bor Talav police, had submitted forged documents to obtain a licence for his firm, Maruti Medical Agency.According to police, an experience certificate purportedly issued by Gurukrupa Agency in Sihor and bearing its signature and seal was found to be fake. The suspected forgery came to light when the food and drugs department was approached to verify the document.Dudhela had obtained a wholesale licence from the department. Explaining the irregularities, Bhavnagar superintendent of police Nitish Pandey said, “A wholesaler is required to produce an experience certificate to obtain a licence from the food and drugs department. During the investigation, we found that he had submitted a forged document to obtain the licence.”Investigators suspect that submitting forged documents to obtain medical licences could be a recurring method used to procure narcotic substances.Following a complaint lodged by SOG assistant sub-inspector Haresh Ulva, Nilambaug police station registered a case under Sections 318(2), 336(2), 336(3), 340(2) and 54 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Over the past five months, Bhavnagar police have registered 10 cases related to cough syrup and arrested 31 persons, police said, adding that further investigation into the racket is underway.
