Dibrugarh: Sivasagar district banned drones and other unmanned aerial devices ahead of Independence Day celebrations.District magistrate Mridul Yadav issued the order on Thursday under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023. It will remain in force from Aug 14 to 15.The order cited security inputs and assessments calling for enhanced precautions to protect public safety, order and state security during official functions, parades and public gatherings.It prohibits the use, operation, flying, launching or possession of unmanned aerial vehicles, drones, remotely piloted aircraft systems, paragliders, powered hang-gliders, hot-air balloons and similar devices in open public places within a 2km radius of official functions, parades and gatherings across Sivasagar district.The order said unrestricted use of such devices could endanger life, property and public tranquillity.Drones and other aerial platforms deployed by the armed forces, central armed police forces, Assam Police and govt security agencies for official security, surveillance or operational purposes are exempt. Other agencies must obtain specific written permission from the district magistrate.Violations will attract punishment under Section 223 of the BNS.
