Show commitment to jobs, stop taking leave for every small festival: CM
Chief minister Pramod Sawant handed over appointment letters to young candidates selected through the mega job fair, in the presence of industries minister Mauvin Godinho, GIDC chairman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, officials and other dignitaries

Panaji: Handing out appointment letters to job aspirants selected by manufacturing firms, chief minister Pramod Sawant told Goa’s youths and graduates to show discipline, commitment and willingness to work in the private sector.Sawant said that private companies have given Goans first preference while filling vacancies, and this must be reciprocated with responsibility.“We often see employees showing a tendency to say, ‘ Today there is kaalo, dhalo is there, today there is a natak .’We have to come out of this mindset. Companies cannot work as per your ‘kaalo, dhalo or natak ’. If you have applied for prior leave, then that is fine, but if you seek leave for dhalo also, then it will not work,” said Sawant. The chief minister told the newly appointed candidates to focus on developing skills, maintaining discipline, showing willingness to learn and staying committed to their jobs. He said these qualities are essential for long-term career growth.“Companies have commitments to their clients, foreign not only in India. If a person does not come for his shift at a pharmaceutical company, it is a big loss for them. That is why I say, you have to show an equal commitment, especially the young boys and girls,” said Sawant.Calling on graduates to think out-of-the-box, he said that politics, like any profession, requires continuous upgrading and adapting to changing times. The CM said there is constant competition, and politicians have to face an examination before the people every five years, adding that if they fail, they have to go home. He said that people’s votes cannot be taken for granted. He said politicians face an “exam” every five years during elections, while graduates appear for exams only once. The CM said that in the future, every govt job will require experience in the private sector along with digital skills. “We need to create a new work culture,” he said.Sawant told the companies to consider increasing wages based on the experience of the job aspirants. “I have said that salaries should be based on experience. It has to increase if someone has four years of experience. It is not simply at minimum wages,” he said.
