Bengaluru: Even while more instances of errors during the enumeration phase were brought to light, the first hearings on notices issued as part of the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls began Thursday, with 206 hearings completed by noon Friday, the office of the chief electoral officer (CEO) said.An official from the department said none of the 206 applications heard so far were rejected. More than 7.3 lakh notices were issued since the end of Aug, while a total 43.8 lakh voters in the state are expected to receive notices.However, several of these include voters who correctly filled in details from the 2002 SIR but were yet marked “not mapped”.One such case from CV Raman Nagar in Bengaluru was brought to the CEO’s office Friday. The electoral registration officer (ERO) told the family that the marking was an “oversight”, but said the girl would still have to attend the hearing with the necessary documents. Similar cases involving at least three voters had emerged in Byatranpura earlier this week. They too were asked to attend hearings.Voters have also raised concerns over notices being delivered too close to the scheduled hearing dates. A voter in Byappanahalli, for instance, received a notice for “no mapping” on Thursday and was asked to appear for the hearing on Saturday.However, an official from the CEO’s office insisted there is a minimum seven-day gap between the generation of a notice by the ERO and the hearing. The official said the delay in some cases was due to the time taken between printing and delivery of notices by booth level officers (BLOs). While the generation, printing and delivery process takes time, the official said BLOs would be instructed to deliver notices at the earliest.The hearings before EROs and assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) are scheduled to conclude on Oct 12, but voters say they are to find the “notice list” at their polling booths. The CEO’s office said lists of notices issued for “no mapping” and other anomalies would be shared by Sunday.Meanwhile, following several queries from voters, the CEO’s office clarified that electors may not find their names in the same part of the draft electoral roll where they were registered earlier. Officials said the part and serial numbers of electors may have changed due to “rationalisation of polling stations” and “re-serialisation of electors”.“Electors who are unable to find their names in the previous parts are therefore requested to search using their EPIC number on voters.eci.gov.in or through ECINET mobile application,” a note issued by the CEO’s office said.
