Quarrel over 'affair' turns violent as Delhi man attacks wife with shaving blade

NEW DELHI: A man was arrested for allegedly attacking his wife with a shaving blade during a quarrel over his alleged affair with another woman in northeast Delhi’s Sunder Nagri area, police said on Tuesday.The accused, Majid Hussain (35), was arrested in connection with the alleged attempt to murder his wife. Police also recovered the shaving blade allegedly used in the attack.The incident took place around 11 pm on September 13 following a quarrel between the couple at their residence in Sunder Nagri, police said.According to police, the woman told investigators that her husband was having an affair with another woman and frequently quarrelled with and assaulted her.Around 15 days before the incident, she had gone to her parental home in Loni along with their three children following repeated disputes, police said.Two days before the incident, Hussain and his father allegedly persuaded her to return home. However, after she returned, her husband started quarrelling with her, according to her statement.During the quarrel on September 13, Hussain allegedly attacked her with a shaving blade, causing multiple injuries to her mouth and throat, police said.A PCR call was received at Nand Nagri police station around 11.40 pm regarding a woman allegedly being attacked on her neck by her husband. A police team reached the spot, but the injured woman had already been shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital by police personnel.Police met the victim at the hospital, where she was undergoing treatment, and recorded her statement.An FIR was registered on September 14 under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (attempt to murder), and an investigation was initiated.The forensic team inspected the crime scene and collected evidence, police said. Hussain was subsequently apprehended.During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted his involvement in the incident, following which the shaving blade used in the attack was recovered at his instance, police said.Hussain has no previous criminal involvement and is not listed as a bad character, according to police.(With Agency Inputs)
