Patiala: A Punjabi University researcher has developed a terahertz patch antenna design for future 6G and ultra-high-speed communication systems, with findings published in several international journals.Researcher Nipun Sharma conducted the study under the supervision of Amrit Kaur in the department of electronics and communication engineering.Sharma said the proposed design represented next-generation technology and performed better than current terahertz systems. He said it offered improved return loss, bandwidth, efficiency and gain, using meta-heuristic algorithms in the design process.The research has been published in three SCI-indexed journals, two Scopus-indexed journals, two conference proceedings and another peer-reviewed journal.Amrit Kaur said the antenna required micrometre-level fabrication and aligned with the rapid growth of India’s semiconductor sector. She said the design could support domestic development of on-chip terahertz antennas and marked a milestone in high-technology communication systems and terahertz applications in India.Vice-chancellor Jagdeep Singh congratulated Sharma and Amrit Kaur, saying the research on advanced 6G communication systems was a major step towards self-reliance in India’s technology sector. He said such achievements enhanced Punjabi University’s academic reputation and inspired other researchers.
