Mumbai dahi handi sees 376 govinda injuries

Mumbai: A total of 376 Govindas were injured across Mumbai during Dahi Handi celebrations on Saturday, the highest number recorded in the past four years. Of these, 90 are undergoing treatment in hospitals, while 286 were discharged after receiving first aid.The number of injuries has risen steadily in recent years—from 222 in 2022 and 195 in 2023 to 245 in 2024 and 315 in 2025.According to the BMC disaster management department, 183 of the injured Govindas were treated at municipal and govt hospitals in the city, of whom 131 were discharged. Another 62 were treated at hospitals in the eastern suburbs and 126 in the western suburbs.Late on Saturday, Mayor Ritu Tawde visited KEM Hospital in Parel and met injured Govindas and their families. While interacting with the Govindas, Tawde said the enthusiasm surrounding the festival was important, but safety should remain the top priority.
