Madura: Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) has condemned the state govt for excluding people with disabilities from the free bus travel scheme, ‘Vettri Payanam’.On Monday evening, members of TARATDAC carried out a protest in Madurai demanding that TVK govt immediately issue an amendment incorporating free transport provisions for disabled people and their attendants.“The initial announcement in the Assembly said free travel was granted to women, children and transgender people. Following statewide demonstrations by TARATDAC, the govt promised during the budget demands that the scheme would be extended to disabled individuals as well,” said district secretary Balamurugan. “We were shocked to find the promise was not kept when the scheme was expanded on Oct 2.”Demanding immediate rectification, TARATDAC said the omission exposes the govt’s continued indifference toward disabled citizens.
