Abohar: A five-year-old girl from Pukka Seed Farm in Abohar, Fazilka district, was severely injured after an alleged assault by her stepmother. When the child’s condition deteriorated following the assault, villagers rushed her to a local hospital, from where doctors referred her to AIIMS Bathinda in view of her serious condition.According to a police complaint lodged by villagers and the sarpanch, the child’s biological mother passed away some time ago. Thereafter, her father, Gurditt Singh, married the accused, Akko Bai.Complainants said Akko Bai started mistreating the child shortly after the marriage. On Sept 30, she allegedly assaulted the girl, inflicting serious injuries.Police said they had detained the accused for questioning and would take legal action on the basis of the doctor’s report after the child regained consciousness.
