Rajkot: The state monitoring cell (SMC) seized 21,792 bottles of liquor worth Rs 86.63 lakh from a mini truck near Radhe Krishna Hotel on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot highway, near Bamanbor village, in the jurisdiction of Airport police station.The liquor, packed in 604 cartons, was concealed behind empty boxes labelled as containers for pain-relief gels, police said.Acting on a tip-off, an SMC team led by inspector P B Jebalia launched a surveillance operation near the hotel. The truck was intercepted and searched, leading to the seizure of the consignment.The truck driver, Jitendrasinh Shravan Singh, fled under the cover of darkness and has been declared wanted.Preliminary inquiries revealed that the consignment was being transported from Chandigarh to Rajkot. Police are searching for seven people linked to the case, including the truck owner, identified as Suresh.A case has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita dealing with forgery and the Gujarat Prohibition Act.
