KMRL MD Loknath Behra’s tenure not extended

Kochi: The state govt has not extended the tenure of current Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) MD Loknath Behra, former DGP of Kerala. His tenure will expire on Aug 30.The transport department secretary issued an order on Saturday announcing that Ernakulam collector G Priyanka will temporarily hold the charge of KMRL MD until further orders, in addition to her existing duties. She will be in charge of the post from Monday.Behra was appointed as MD of KMRL in 2021 on a re-employment basis and his tenure was extended two times, in 2024 and 2025 by then LDF govt.Alkesh Kumar Sharma was the MD before Behra assumed office. Behra had recently courted controversy over the proposed renaming of KMRL as Keralam Metro Rail. It invited criticism from chief minister V D Satheesan questioning the authority of KMRL to propose renaming without consulting with the state govt.
