DU girl rape case: No visible injuries found, says medical report

Pathikrit.ChakrabortyLucknow: In a twist in the alleged gangrape of a 19-year-old Delhi University student from UP’s Jaunpur, the preliminary medical examination has revealed no visible external injuries on the survivor’s private parts and no signs indicating forcible sexual assault by multiple persons. The test was conducted in Delhi and TOI got exclusive access to the medical documents. The medical report, prepared after the survivor approached authorities at Anand Vihar Railway Police and lodged a Zero FIR, records the absence of external injury marks. However, medico-legal experts told TOI that the medical examination does not conclusively rule out sexual assault. The examination was conducted shortly after the complainant reached Delhi on May 19 and informed Railway authorities about the alleged assault. Biological swab samples collected during the medical procedure have been preserved and sent for forensic examination, with the final medical opinion expected only after the Forensic Science Laboratory submits its report.Sources said that electronic surveillance and call record analysis indicated the survivor remained in constant telephonic contact with the main accused, Shivam Yadav, after she allegedly left Lucknow for Delhi. The survivor in her FIR alleged that after being repeatedly sexually assaulted at a rented flat in Lucknow’s Sushant Golf City for four days, she was dropped at Charbagh railway station by the accused on May 18. Police sources said the accused allegedly purchased a general train ticket for her before leaving her at the station.Sources said surveillance suggests that during her train journey to Delhi, the survivor remained in regular phone contact with Shivam Yadav, whom she later named as the principal accused in the FIR.Senior officers in Lucknow police said the medical observations would be treated as only one component of the broader investigation and would be analysed alongside forensic, digital and circumstantial evidence.“Medical findings are being incorporated into the probe, but the investigation is still at a preliminary stage, said an officer.Lucknow police have announced a reward of Rs 25,000 each for information leading to the arrest of absconding accused Shivam Yadav and Sunny Yadav. Multiple teams continue to conduct raids at suspected hideouts in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.According to the FIR, the girl was travelling from Jaunpur to Delhi when an acquaintance, Shivam Yadav, persuaded her to get off the train at Lucknow. She alleged that Shivam and Sunny took her to a rented flat where she was given a spiked cold drink and sexually assaulted repeatedly.Survivor records statement before magistrateThe survivor recorded her statement before a magistrate on Tuesday as part of the ongoing investigation.
