Action taken against 81 buses during surprise inspection by MVD

Kochi: In the wake of increasing incidents of private bus drivers’ rude behaviour, negligence, and dangerous driving in Kochi city, the enforcement wing of the motor vehicles department (MVD) conducted a surprise inspection in Ernakulam. Action was taken against 81 buses and a fine of Rs 1,21,250 was collected.The surprise inspection was carried out by four special squads centred on the main areas of the city, including Aluva, Kalamassery, Chittoor, Mamangalam, Kacheripadi, Kombara, Mattancherry, Fort Kochi, Panampilly Nagar, and Tripunithura.Out of a total of 110 vehicles inspected, cases were registered against 81 vehicles through e-challan.The action was taken against vehicles that were operating without paying road tax, drivers without a valid driving licence, staff without an official conductor licence, and buses that operated music systems in a manner that distracts the driver and causes inconvenience to passengers.The enforcement RTO said the bus driver’s licence will be cancelled if the vehicle is stopped in the middle of the road, creating an obstruction.Action will also be taken against carelessly moving the bus forward at pedestrian crossings without giving way to pedestrians. The department has decided to make the inspection stricter in the coming days.
