Jind: Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized 5.7 kg of heroin, or chitta, during an operation on the Ujhana-Piplatha road, officials said on Wednesday.According to SP Kuldeep Singh, a CIA Staff Jind team led by inspector Yadvender Singh was checking vehicles near Ujhana bus stand when it received information that two men were waiting near Dhamtan Minor bridge to sell narcotics.The team reached the spot and allegedly spotted the two men carrying a blue trolley bag. Police said they tried to move away on seeing the team but were intercepted.The accused were identified as Lovepreet and Baljeet, both residents of Piplatha village in Jind district’s Narwana area. Police said a search of the trolley bag yielded 5.7 kg of heroin, which was seized and sealed as per procedure.A case was registered at Garhi police station on Aug 18 under Sections 21(C), 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act. The accused were produced before a court and remanded in police custody.Police said the investigation would focus on tracing the source of the heroin and the wider supply network.SP Kuldeep Singh said Jind Police was taking strict action against the illegal drug trade and urged residents to share information about drug trafficking, assuring them that informants’ identities would be kept confidential.
