4 FIRs against Rahul, Priyanka over anti-CEC protests in Delhi
The protests continued for a third consecutive day on Thursday

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has so far registered at least four FIRs against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other opposition leaders in connection with the two-day protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Lutyens’ Delhi, sources told news agency PTI on Thursday.The FIRs were registered under sections relating to assault, obstructing public servants from discharging their duties and violation of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the sources told PTI. The development came a day after police registered an FIR against Rahul and Priyanka for allegedly forcing their way into Akashvani Bhawan. Police had detained 91 people, including several MPs, during Wednesday’s protest.The opposition leaders had been stopped while attempting to march to Jantar Mantar for a sit-in demanding Kumar’s resignation over allegations of “vote chori”. Rahul Gandhi had earlier claimed that around 300 MPs wanted to hold a peaceful protest but were stopped by police and “beaten up”.The protests continued for a third consecutive day on Thursday, with INDIA bloc leaders staging a sit-in at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at Rajghat. The opposition has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and CEC Kumar of “hijacking” the country through an alleged conspiracy involving “vote chori”.Rahul Gandhi said Modi, Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Kumar had “destroyed the Constitution and stolen votes”, asserting that they would be brought to justice.“The truth is that Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat, and Gyanesh Kumar have hijacked the country through a criminal conspiracy. They have destroyed the Constitution and stolen votes,” he said.Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the opposition had come to Rajghat to pray for “wisdom” for the government and the Election Commission, while demanding that alleged irregularities in the electoral process be stopped.
