World No. 1 Jannik Sinner is heading into the Italian Open final after surviving a dramatic semi-final against Daniil Medvedev. But while fans were busy talking about the tense match, many also noticed something unusual in the stands, Sinner’s mother, Siglinde, was suddenly missing, leaving father Hanspeter alone during the rain-hit battle in Rome. Sinner defeated Medvedev 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to book his place in Sunday’s final against Casper Ruud. The match at Foro Italico stretched across two days after heavy rain stopped play late Friday night. The Italian looked fully in control early on, winning the first set with ease. But things quickly became difficult in the second set when Medvedev started pushing harder from the baseline and forced mistakes from Sinner.The pressure also appeared to affect Sinner physically. During the deciding set, the 24-year-old asked for a medical timeout for treatment on his right knee. Soon after, rain became heavier and officials suspended the match. That long delay created even more tension around the semi-final as fans waited for play to continue on Saturday.While the match drama was already huge, fans online suddenly turned their attention toward Sinner’s family box after spotting that Siglinde was no longer there. Hanspeter stayed in the stands alone, and social media users quickly started joking about the situation.

Several fans shared funny reactions on X after Siglinde’s absence became noticeable during the match suspension. That prediction ended up becoming reality as the semi-final turned into a nerve-filled battle.After the win, Sinner admitted the unusual stop-and-start nature of the match made things mentally exhausting. “It was a very different challenge and a tough challenge. Usually, during the night, I don’t struggle to sleep but this time it was not easy. You are in the third set, nearly done but you still have to show up again and you never know what is happening. It is like the start of the match as there are nerves again. I am very happy with how I handled this situation and that I back in the final,” Sinner said via ATP.Now the Italian star will enter the final against Casper Ruud with confidence. Sinner currently holds a perfect 4-0 record over the Norwegian and will try to complete another big moment in front of home fans in Rome.
