‘Will let you study’: Girl returns home after parents’ promise in Madhya Pradesh HC
The court subsequently disposed of the petition after recording the parents’ assurance that they would not stop their daughter from pursuing further studies.

BHOPAL/JABALPUR: A division bench of the Madhya Pradesh high court allowed a girl to return home with her parents after they assured the court that she would be allowed to continue her studies and that no ‘outsider’ would influence decisions about her future. The girl, who had initially refused to go home after being produced before the court in a habeas corpus petition filed by her father, agreed to return after counselling with her parents.During the hearing on Sept 8, a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Vivek Rusia and Justice Pradeep Mittal was faced with an unusual situation after the police produced the girl before it and she refused to accompany her parents. After the girl refused to return home, the court ordered counselling for her and her parents. It directed the secretary of the State Legal Aid Authority (SALSA) to arrange a counsellor and deferred the hearing until 2.30 pm.After counselling, the girl agreed to return home on two conditions: that she be allowed to continue her studies and that only her parents decide her future, with ‘no outsider’ interfering in their domestic matters. The court subsequently disposed of the petition after recording the parents’ assurance that they would not stop their daughter from pursuing further studies.
