Authorities in Madhya Pradesh took action against students and passengers heading to a protest in Delhi.

BHOPAL: Authorities stopped passengers travelling to Delhi for the Cockroach Janata Party protest at Jantar Mantar, with 15 Pune students held at Itarsi and four passengers deboarded at Bhopal. Several trains bound for Delhi were also cancelled ahead of the October 10 demonstration.

Madhya Pradesh Police took 15 students from a Pune university, including three girls, off a train at Itarsi railway station on Thursday as they travelled to Delhi for the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar on Oct 10.Some students alleged they were manhandled and intimidated, with their democratic rights curtailed. Officials denied the allegations. The students were taken to a resort in Itarsi and accommodated there. Officials said breakfast was served to them.Authorities have not officially clarified the order under which the students were stopped, why they were prevented from proceeding to Delhi or the basis for arranging their return. One activist also alleged that no woman police officer was present during the action.The students said they intended to demand Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and the cancellation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. After being stopped, they raised slogans at Itarsi station against the CEC and the PM.

Four passengers travelling from Hyderabad to Delhi aboard the Telangana Express were deboarded at Bhopal railway station around 9.45 pm on Thursday over concerns that they could disrupt law and order during the proposed CJP protest in the national capital on Saturday.Senior Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said the four, who were heading to Delhi to participate in the protest, were served notices under Section 172 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and detained following inputs that their activities could affect law and order. They were subsequently handed over to local police.Their current status remains unclear, with officials yet to confirm whether they have been released or sent back.Meanwhile, Indian Railways has cancelled several Mail and Express trains bound for Delhi as security arrangements intensify ahead of the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10. The cancellations affect services originating from the Bhopal, Jabalpur and Kota divisions of the West Central Railway zone, disrupting travel plans for passengers heading to the capital.Railway sources said trains scheduled to depart after 2 pm on Friday and reach New Delhi after 4 am on Saturday have been cancelled at their originating stations. The measures cover services bound for New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations.The Railways has officially cancelled Friday’s Bhopal Express originating from Rani Kamlapati station. The Vande Bharat Express scheduled to depart from Rani Kamlapati on Saturday is also likely to be cancelled, while additional services may be withdrawn depending on the security situation.Officials attributed the cancellations to anticipated traffic congestion and operational constraints around the two Delhi railway stations.The timing coincides with preparations for the CJP demonstration at Jantar Mantar, where organisers plan to protest over alleged “vote theft” and demand accountability from the Chief Election Commissioner.Delhi Police has denied permission for the protest, citing short notice, public safety, law-and-order concerns and traffic regulation. Security agencies have also recommended possible restrictions at 57 Delhi Metro stations from Friday night until the situation normalises.
