Aamir Khan talks about how Gauri Spratt changed her thoughts about marriage
On multiple occasions, the famed ‘Dangal’ actor had shared that he did not wish to get married, and the concept seemed foreign at his age now. However, a lot of things changed for the actor after he met Gauri Spratt. During an interview he had with Raj Shamani on his ‘Figuring Out’ podcast last year, the star revealed that while he had admitted on multiple occasions that marriage was not something in the cards for him, when he and Spratt fell for one another, things changed.When the host asked about what changed since those interviews, Khan replied by saying, “Gauri, vo mujhe mili kyunki uss wakt mujhe laga tha ki ab main, meri umar bhi ho gai hai. Ab iss umar me main kahan dhundunga kisi aur ko” (Gauri, I met her because at that time I felt—well, I was getting on in years. I thought, ‘Where would I find someone else at this age?’ ). The actor further added that, “Meri therapy bhi shuru ho gai thi tab tak, toh mujhe samajh me aa gaya tha ki yaar actually mujhe apne aap ko healthy banana hai. Aur jo mai pyaar karun, pehle apne aap se karun. Self-love and self-respect, uspe maine dhyaan dena shuru kiya” (By then, I had started therapy, so I realized that I actually needed to focus on becoming healthy. I understood that the love I give should start with myself—I began focusing on self-love and self-respect. )During the interview, at the time he also talked about Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, sharing how he had a close bond with both of them, and to this date is good friends with them; however, after his second marriage he felt that he would never find anyone with whom he could share the same bond like that.While Gauri Spratt and Aamir Khan knew each other around 25 years ago, the actor shared that the two met again “by mistake” and a bond slowly developed between the two of them. He added that he thought at the time, “Mujhe ek partner ki zarurat nai hai.” However, the two of them still ended up falling in love with one another.

For the unversed, Aamir Khan has been married twice before. He married Reena Dutta in 1986, and the two were together until they filed for divorce and parted ways in 2002. They had their first son, Junaid Khan, during their marriage. Reena also gave birth to their only daughter, Ira Khan. Both of the siblings are currently working in the film industry, with Junaid starring as an actor, while Ira works behind the scenes as an assistant director. Two years later, in 2005, he and Kiran Rao tied the knot and had their youngest son, Azad Rao Khan, in 2011 via surrogacy.
