Nagpur: Water seepage and leaking false ceilings inside the newly constructed administrative building under the Nagpur Railway Station Redevelopment Project have raised questions over construction quality after videos of the incident surfaced following recent rains.However, the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), which is executing the project, said the incident was caused by accidental damage to a water-supply pipe during ongoing finishing work and was not due to rainwater leakage or any structural failure.In an official statement, RLDA said a CPVC water-supply pipe inside a utility shaft on the seventh floor was accidentally damaged during plumbing work. “The pressurised water accumulated inside the shaft and travelled through louvres and MEP service ducts before leaking through the false ceiling of the ground-floor toilets,” it said.The authority said the pipe was repaired immediately, the leakage had stopped and the remaining dampness was expected to disappear within one to three days.The incident left water dripping through ceilings, damp walls and waterlogged floors inside the building.The new administrative building has been occupied up to the third floor, while finishing work is underway on the fourth to seventh floors, according to RLDA.Images from the site showed water leaking through sections of the false ceiling, particularly around the ground-floor toilet area, with some portions of the floor appearing waterlogged.The incident has drawn attention to quality assurance and execution standards during the final phase of the Nagpur Railway Station Redevelopment Project, one of the region’s major railway infrastructure initiatives.“The water leakage was caused by accidental damage to a water-supply pipe during ongoing finishing work. Water accumulated because of the damaged pipe and there was no structural failure,” said Sr DCM, Nagpur Division, Aman Mittal.
