As US President Donald Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House on Thursday, members of the Tibetan community staged an anti-China protest in Washington, DC, raising slogans including “We want China out of Tibet”.The protest came as talks were held focused on strengthening ties between the US and China, with the meeting drawing attention to several longstanding areas of disagreement between the two countries.News agency ANI reported that the protestors are demanding that the Tibet issue be raised before the Chinese Govt and a solution should be brought about.Trump accorded Xi a grand welcome at the White House, complete with military honours and a flyover by fighter jets on Wednesday.Trump, Xi discuss future of US-China tiesAt the state dinner, Trump said the US and China had “never gotten along better” and expressed confidence that the two countries could continue building a relationship focused on prosperity and security.“Americans and Chinese have always exchanged goods, knowledge, customs, and ideas. This has been the foundation of commerce and mutual respect between our countries, and together we can continue to build a relationship that promotes prosperity and security for future generations,” Trump said.Xi said China-US relations had reached another “historical juncture” after what he described as sincere and in-depth exchanges with Trump.According to a statement released by China’s foreign ministry, the two leaders agreed to build a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability.The Chinese Foreign Ministry said the two leaders discussed the latest economic and trade consultations between the two countries.“President Xi pointed out that both sides can continue their dialogue on AI, exchange views on its risks and benefits, and jointly prevent the misuse and abuse of AI,” the statement said.
