Visakhapatnam: Vizag city police raided more than 100 spas/massage centres across the city and found that some establishments were flouting regulations.During the inspections, several deficiencies relating to statutory licences and permissions, fire safety, health and hygiene standards, documentation, trained staff, maintenance of records and display of mandatory information were noticed at certain establishments.The police said Miami Ayurvedic Thai Spa, located at Chinna Gantyada of Gajuwaka, was found to be involved in suspicious activities indicating prostitution-related activity. The police observed four women and three men at the spa, and they were secured and handed over to the Gajuwaka police station for taking necessary legal action. The Gajuwaka police registered a case under human trafficking, sexual exploitation and a few sections under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.Vizag city police has directed the management of all spas/massage centres to ensure strict compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations prescribed by the competent authorities. The management shall obtain and maintain all mandatory licences, permissions and statutory certificates, ensure compliance with prescribed fire safety and health and hygiene standards and ensure that the premises are not used for any illegal or unlawful activity, the police added.The police reiterate that no unlawful activity will be permitted under the guise of spas/massage centres. Any spa/massage centre found violating statutory requirements, facilitating or indulging in prostitution, or involved in any other illegal activity will face strict legal action against the management, operators and other persons responsible, as per law. The management of such establishments is advised to immediately rectify all deficiencies and ensure full compliance with the applicable statutory requirements.
