Trichy: Mayor Mu Anbalagan on Thursday reviewed the working conditions of seven flood water pumping stations in the city, as IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Trichy. He checked the decentralised pumping stations equipped with shutters and retaining walls to prevent reverse flow of water into residential areas.A trial run was conducted by workers using both electric and diesel pumps, crucial to divert surplus water from stagnation-prone areas to the rivers and canals.“We have adequate diesel motor pumps in different capacities and chainsaws in all five zones to mitigate the heavy rainfall impact. Operators at the flood water pumping stations were told to be on alert, and update inundation levels throughout the monsoon season,” the mayor said.IMD has predicted heavy rain to lash the Trichy district on Friday and Sunday (Oct 23 and 25). Based on a vulnerability assessment considering the past flooding incidents in the city till 2021, the local body constructed seven pumping stations covering Dhobi Colony, AUT Nagar, Krishnapuram, Fathima Nagar and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in 2022-23. The areas are adjacent to Koraiyar and Kudamurutti rivers, both flood carriers.
