Visakhapatnam: Residents of Neredubandha, a hilltop village in Anakapalli district, have begun repairing their road through shramadanam after a sanctioned road project remained incomplete and heavy rains left the existing stretch badly damaged.For the past two days, villagers have been filling potholes and levelling the damaged road. They have repaired nearly 1 km, making it usable for two-wheelers.Neredubandha, inhabited by the Konda tribal community, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), falls under Cheemalapadu panchayat in Ravikamatham mandal. A 3-km BT road from Jogampeta to Neredubandha was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore under MGNREGS.The foundation stone was laid by Chodavaram MLA KSN Raju in December 2024 under the ‘Palle Pandaga–Adavi Thalli Bata’ programme. While road formation and culvert works were taken up, villagers alleged that bills worth nearly Rs 1 crore were cleared despite the project remaining unfinished.Subsequent heavy rains damaged the formation road, creating deep potholes and uneven stretches. “We are repairing the road with our own labour because we have no other option. We want the authorities to complete the BT road,” villagers said.Dippala Apparao, Kilopotti Dora, Sharana and others participated in the shramadanam.
