Times News NetworkBhopal: Traders staged a nearly two-hour protest at Roshanpura Square on Tuesday against the civic administration’s action against commercial activities in residential areas, leading to traffic congestion on roads connecting the busy intersection.A large number of traders, including women, gathered at the square and raised slogans against the sealing drive. The protesters said businesses had been operating from residential areas for several years and that sudden sealing action would not only affect shopkeepers but also employees and families dependent on these establishments.During the protest, traders organised a rally and later sat on the road at several points around Roshanpura Square, disrupting traffic movement. They also sang the national anthem collectively as part of the demonstration. The traders said they had been paying taxes and running their businesses from the areas for years and demanded that the government find a practical solution instead of abruptly shutting down establishments. At one point, some protesters attempted to march towards the CM House but were stopped by police. Heavy police deployment was made on roads leading towards the CM House to prevent the protesters from proceeding further.Additional DCP (Traffic) Basant Kaul said traffic was diverted from Malviya Nagar, Banganga Square and Rang Mahal Square during the protest. “There were initial problems, but traffic movement was later streamlined,” he said. The traders ended the sit-in after warning of a more intense agitation if the government failed to address their concerns.
