Kolkata: To prevent “sins” like the RG Kar rape-murder, people should be taught the Bhagavad Gita, CM Suvendu Adhikari said on Wednesday.“People should be taught the Bhagavad Gita to prevent ‘sins’ like the RG Kar incident. Reading the Gita could bring a spiritual awakening and help prevent such incidents,” CM said after offering prayers at Dakshineswar Ramakrishna Sangha Adyapeath Temple. He inaugurated the newly constructed main gate of the temple and an ambulance donated by Adyapeath.Speaking on ‘Sanatan’ culture, Adhikari added that people must be made aware of the significance of the saffron colour.As CM reached the temple around 11 am, he was welcomed by Adyapeath head Brahmachari Mural Bhai, the secretary, and trustees. Residents of the ashram were also present to greet Adhikari. CM visited the temple’s cowshed and fed the cows before offering prayers to Adya Maa, said sources. He then participated in the morning prayers.In his brief speech, CM said, “Bengal is not only the cultural capital but also the spiritual capital of the country. This govt will help bring on spiritual awakening among people. Merely applying sandalwood paste to the forehead is not enough. People must be made aware of the significance of the saffron colour. Every Sanatan institution has a spirit of service. Arrangements must be made to improve these institutions.”Lauding PM Narendra Modi, Adhikari said: “Three lakh people sacrificed their lives for the Ram temple in Ayodhya. That temple was built with the money of Hindus. PM Modi has connected the Kashi Vishwanath temple with Maa Ganga.”Saying that he would take steps for the development of Adyapeath, CM said, “Maharaj told me that the educational institutions here are running with great difficulty. I will do whatever I can. One should speak less and work more.”
