Shimla: The leader of the opposition in the Himachal Pradesh assembly, Jai Ram Thakur, on Saturday said that after coming to power in 2027, the BJP dispensation would review the creation of new administrative blocks by the incumbent Congress govt if these were carved out for political gains and against public sentiment.Addressing a news conference in Chamba, Thakur accused chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of diverting public attention from unfulfilled election guarantees and the closure of welfare schemes by raising the issue of new districts.“If assembly constituencies are rearranged arbitrarily to create districts against public sentiment, it will prove costly for Congress govt,” Thakur said, adding that people would “denotify” the Sukhu govt itself. The former chief minister accused the Congress govt of sidelining schemes like Himcare, Sahara, Shagun, Grihini Suvidha and Swavalamban started by the previous BJP govt and failing to deliver on its 10 election guarantees.Thakur also targeted senior Congress functionary and LoP in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, over allegations of vote theft and EVM manipulation, claiming the Congress was opposing the revision of electoral rolls.Citing recent local body elections in Himachal Pradesh, he said BJP-backed candidates’ performance reflected public rejection of Congress policies. He also claimed that the Sukhu govt earlier tried to delay panchayat elections. Thakur said the BJP had approached the Supreme Court to ensure the conduct of these polls.
