Shah Rukh Khan drops update on Mannat as his Rs 300 crore home is under reconstruction, says he's getting a new gallery made to greet fans

Shah Rukh Khan has given fans a glimpse into the ongoing renovation of Mannat, revealing that a new gallery is being constructed at his iconic sea-facing Bandra residence. The actor shared the update during his recent #AskSRK session on X and, in his trademark witty style, hinted that the new space could become his next spot for greeting fans.Shah Rukh, his wife Gauri Khan and their children Aryan, Suhana and AbRam temporarily moved out of Mannat in April 2025 as the property underwent extensive renovation and structural repairs. The iconic Mumbai residence is estimated to be worth around Rs 300 crore.During the interaction, a fan jokingly suggested that Shah Rukh should sell Mannat if he no longer intended to appear on its famous balcony. The actor responded by revealing that he was getting a new gallery built and would “shine” from there.“Sir, sell Mannat. If you don’t want to come to the gallery this time, #AskSRK !!,” wrote the fan while SRK responded in his witty style, “Ab new gallery bana rah hoon na so aur bhi chumkunga…on the new gallery. Also hopefully will have some handle to hold onto!!”Shah Rukh has traditionally stepped out onto Mannat’s balcony to greet the sea of fans gathered outside, especially on his birthday and other special occasions. However, the ongoing renovation prevented him from making his customary balcony appearance during his 60th birthday celebrations. The actor had cited security concerns at the time and apologised to his fans. The new gallery is understood to be part of a larger renovation and expansion project at Mannat. In August, producer and real estate developer Anand Pandit revealed that his firm was involved in the work being carried out at the property. He also said that additional floors were being added to the rear portion of the bungalow.Reports have stated that two new floors are being added to the annexe. A source told Hindustan Times Real Estate, “The annexe building earlier had around six floors. As part of the expansion, two additional floors, covering a combined area of approximately 7,000 sq ft, have been added. This takes the total area of the annexe to more than 30,000 sq ft,”The existing six floors of the annexe have also undergone repairs and renovation. However, the main bungalow has not been extended vertically. According to the source, the heritage status of the property limits structural changes of that scale.Interestingly, Mannat was not always known by its current name. Shah Rukh had initially named the bungalow ‘Jannat’, meaning heaven. He later changed its name to ‘Mannat’, meaning prayer, after believing the property had brought him luck. With the renovation underway, Shah Rukh and his family have been staying in luxury duplex apartments at Puja Casa in Pali Hill, Bandra. The actor reportedly moved into the temporary residence in April 2025 under a 36-month lease. Located around 3 km from Mannat, the accommodation comprises two duplex apartments measuring approximately 6,000 sq ft and 4,500 sq ft, which were leased from members of the Bhagnani family.According to a source close to Shah Rukh, the renovation work at Mannat is expected to be completed within the next two to three months, after which the actor and his family are likely to return to their home. Their return is expected to coincide with the completion of the major expansion of the Mannat annexe, including the two additional floors. The proposed expansion is expected to significantly increase the property’s built-up area, while the renovation has reportedly been estimated to cost around Rs 25 crore. Mannat itself is widely reported to be worth approximately Rs 300 crore today. Shah Rukh purchased the iconic property in 2001, and over the years, it has become one of Mumbai’s most recognisable celebrity landmarks.
