India’s Seema Kaliramna won the bronze medal in the women’s discus throw at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday, while fellow Indian Nidhi Rani finished fourth.Seema secured a place on the podium with a best throw of 58.65m in her third attempt. Although she fouled her fourth, fifth and sixth throws, no athlete managed to better her mark.Cameroon’s Monie Nora Atim had one final attempt to move ahead of Seema but could not do so. She managed only 11.18m in her last throw, allowing the Indian to finish third.Jamaica’s Samantha Hall won the gold medal with a best throw of 61.66m, while Canada’s Julia Tunks claimed silver with 60.67m.The 27-year-old Seema returned to competition after becoming a mother and won gold at the 2025 National Games. She is also pursuing a PhD, as per a report by news agency PTI.Nidhi opened India’s campaign with a throw of 53.19m. She was then overtaken by Nigeria’s Obiageri Pamela Amaechi, who threw 53.68m, and Uganda’s Monie Nora Atim, who registered 55.37m. Seema started with a foul after her discus hit the net.Tunks moved to the top with an opening throw of 58.21m before Hall took the lead with 59.27m.Nidhi improved to 55.67m in her second attempt to move into third place, but Seema went past her with a throw of 57.32m in the same round.Tunks then improved to 60.67m to strengthen her hold on the silver medal position. Seema responded with her best throw of 58.65m in the third round to move into bronze-medal position.Hall extended her lead with a throw of 60.95m in the fourth round before recording her best effort of 61.66m in the fifth round to seal the gold medal.
