Varanasi: Owned by Shankar Pandey, accused in the Vineet Rai murder case, a pet dog of Rottweiler breed was rescued by police on Wednesday. The dog remained locked inside the house for a few days after Pandey fled following the May 29 murder. The dog came out after a storm broke open the door. A video of its escape went viral and a woman in the neighbourhood was taking care of the dog of a ferocious breed.A team comprising personnel of Kotwali police, Sadar Tehsildar, Revenue Department and veterinary Sadar in charge Dr Hasnain Ansari reached the spot and rescued the dog by administering anaesthesia and took it to the veterinary hospital for health examination and treatment.Shankar Pandey has been absconding since the murder of Ghazipur’s well-known hotel businessman Vineet Rai on May 29 and is carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head. Pandey had left the dog locked inside the house. The murder case was registered at Kotwali against four named and some unidentified people. Among the named accused, Kamlesh Chaudhary was killed in a police encounter on the night of Jun 4, while Shankar Pandey, Alok Dubey, and Sonu Yadav are absconding. Police have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh rupees each on the three.
