Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Wednesday served notices to 15 buildings and commercial establishments operating between the registry office and a banquet hall in Morabadi for alleged violations of building norms and unauthorised commercial use of residential properties. The action followed an intensive inspection by an RMC team, which examined sanctioned building plans, verified land use and detected alleged deviations from approved layouts, unapproved structural changes and commercial activities being run from residential premises. The civic body has given the property owners and operators three days to produce their sanctioned building plans and other mandatory documents, including trade licences, commercial holding papers, hostel registrations and fire department no-objection certificates, wherever applicable.Officials warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would lead to legal action, including sealing of the premises under the Jharkhand Municipal Act, 2011, and the Jharkhand Building Bye-laws, 2016.The inspection was initiated after municipal commissioner Sushant Gaurav visited the upcoming vendor market site in Morabadi. During the visit, officials reportedly found several residential buildings being used to run shops, leading to haphazard parking and traffic congestion in the area. The latest action is part of RMC’s wider drive to enforce building regulations across the city. On Monday, the civic body had issued notices to seven institutions, including hostels, lodges and coaching centres, for allegedly operating from residential buildings or lacking the required statutory permissions.RMC officials said nine other institutions, which had earlier been served notices, were likely to be sealed as they either failed to respond or submitted unsatisfactory documents. The civic body reiterated that construction without an approved plan, alteration of sanctioned blueprints and conversion of residential premises for commercial use without permission were serious violations. It also cited a Supreme Court ruling dated Dec 17, 2024, directing strict action against unauthorised constructions and deviations from approved plans.RMC urged property owners and business operators to comply with approved building usage and licensing norms to avoid punitive action.
