Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday launched a sharp attack on the BJP and the Sangh Parivar, describing them as the “biggest threat” to the country and democracy, and urged people to rally behind the Gandhi family to defeat communal forces and make Rahul Gandhi the prime minister.Addressing a programme in Nilambur, Kerala, where he was conferred the Aryadan Muhammed-2026 Best Public Servant Award, Revanth alleged that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were fighting against freedom, secularism and the Constitution. He said the country was facing growing dangers from communal forces.Describing the current political contest as a battle between the Sangh Parivar and the “Gandhi parivar”, he accused the former of trying to divide the country on the basis of caste, religion, region and language, while crediting the Gandhi family with making sacrifices for the nation.Referring to Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, the chief minister said they had sacrificed their lives for the country, while Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi had sacrificed positions of power.He urged people to stand with the Gandhi family and said he was ready to sacrifice his life for the Gandhi family to protect the country from communal forces. Asking whether people were prepared to do the same, he asserted that Kerala would lead what he described as a political fight against the Sangh Parivar.Drawing on Kerala’s political history, Revanth said the state had played a crucial role in shaping national politics. He cited the 1991 elections, when K Karunakaran was Kerala chief minister and PV Narasimha Rao became Prime Minister, and contrasted it with 1996, when the Left came to power in the state and the Congress lost power at the Centre.Saying that a “new breeze” was emerging from Kerala, he expressed confidence that a Congress victory in the state would grow into a broader political movement across the country.The chief minister said “history is calling” for Rahul Gandhi to become prime minister and accused communal forces of “vote ki chori, party ki chori, symbol ki chori and funds ki chori”. “They are also stealing the future of youth of the country, democracy, integrity of vote and the election commission of India,” he alleged.Calling Kerala a “bellwether state”, Revanth said the Congress wave should spread “like a tsunami” across every village, town and State, paving the way for a Congress-led govt at the Centre and for Rahul Gandhi to “fly the national flag high on the Red Fort”.Revanth said he had no personal political ambitions left, recalling his rise from the grassroots since 2006 through positions including ZPTC member, MLC, MLA, MP, TPCC president and chief minister. His only remaining political ambition, he said, was to see Rahul Gandhi become prime minister and a Congress-led govt assume office at the Centre.
