All schools in Prayagraj will remain closed today, Saturday, September 26, due to continuous rainfall and adverse weather conditions. The closure will cover students from Classes 1 to 12 across government, aided, recognised and private schools affiliated with CBSE, ICSE and other boards.District School Inspector Dr Santosh Kumar Rai issued the closure order on Friday, directing schools to remain shut for students in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
Prayagraj schools closed for Classes 1 to 12
The holiday will apply to schools across Prayagraj, irrespective of their management or board affiliation. Students will not be required to attend classes on Saturday.However, the order does not amount to a complete shutdown of school operations. Teachers and other school staff will continue to report to their respective schools and carry out their regular duties, according to the district administration’s directions.The decision comes as Prayagraj has received persistent rainfall since Thursday, with weather conditions remaining unsettled through Friday night.
Prayagraj records around 70 mm rain in two days
Prayagraj received around 40 mm of rainfall between Thursday morning and Friday morning, followed by another 30 mm through Friday day and night, taking the two-day total to nearly 70 mm.The persistent rain also brought down temperatures across the city. The maximum temperature recorded on Friday was 25.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum stood at 24.2 degrees Celsius. The difference between the two was only 1.2 degrees.The sky remained cloudy through the day, while intermittent rain continued, varying from light showers to spells of heavier rain. Strong winds during the night added to the chill in the weather.
Government keeps Prayagraj and 33 other districts on alert
The school closure comes amid a wider weather alert across Uttar Pradesh. The state government has directed authorities in 34 districts, including Prayagraj, to remain vigilant until September 27 in view of cyclonic weather conditions, dense cloud cover and the possibility of heavy rainfall.District magistrates and senior superintendents of police have been asked to remain prepared to respond to emergencies. Hospitals, municipal authorities and rescue teams have also been placed on alert.Authorities have been instructed to identify and barricade areas vulnerable to waterlogging and make alternative traffic arrangements wherever required. Officials have also been asked to exercise caution during power outages.In case of any disaster or emergency, the administration has been directed to immediately utilise the services of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Civil Defence and Home Guards.
Heavy rain forecast for September 26 and 27
The weather department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Uttar Pradesh on September 26 and 27. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds reaching 40 to 60 kmph are also expected.According to meteorologist Professor Suneet Dwivedi, the intensity of rainfall may start declining from Sunday. However, cloudy conditions and occasional light rain may continue.The monsoon is expected to withdraw from the region during the first week of October, with Prayagraj having experienced substantial rainfall during this year’s season.
