Mumbai: Kalachowki police registered an FIR on Aug 27 against an unidentified person for allegedly creating objectionable YouTube content falsely portraying a 55-year-old Byculla photography teacher as Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde’s husband. Police said the owner of the “gk-shorts-videos” YouTube channel allegedly used photographs of the teacher and Tawde to create and broadcast defamatory short videos intending to malign them.The teacher learnt about the content on Aug 26 after a woman living on the first floor of his building sent him a YouTube link via WhatsApp. He told police that the link opened a short video on the “ha.shorts-videos” channel. According to the FIR, the video contained details about the teacher’s name, education, profession, religion, hobbies and family background. It displayed Tawde’s photograph beside his and portrayed him as her husband. The teacher said his photograph appeared to have been taken from Facebook, while Tawde’s seemed to have been sourced from social media. The video appeared to have been posted on Aug 23.Police are seeking information about the “gk-shorts-videos” channel, created on April 15, with 1.53K subscribers and 243 videos featuring political leaders and film stars. Investigators are collecting internet protocol details to identify the person operating the channel. The teacher submitted screenshots of the video to police for further investigation.
