Lucknow: Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) secured nearly Rs 20 crore in research funding from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in 2026 with eight projects selected under competitive national-level calls.“Five proposals were selected under ICMR’s restricted call for the medical institutions ranked top 10 by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), securing around Rs 11.2 crore. Three more projects in the intermediate category received an additional Rs 8.46 crore,” said Prof Vinita Agrawal, faculty in charge of research.She said that 81 proposals had been received from faculty for the NIRF call, of which 22 were shortlisted for submission and five were finally selected by ICMR.Mentioning that the projects covered a wide range of areas, including metabolic liver disease, glioblastoma, pregnancy-associated anaemia, renal transplantation, cancer immunotherapy, hepatitis, kidney disease and neonatal care, the authorities said that the culture of research added immense value to SGPGI’s overall standing.Director Prof RK Dhiman said the achievement reflected SGPGIMS’s strong research ecosystem and multidisciplinary expertise, with a focus on translating scientific discoveries into better patient care.Dean Prof Shaleen Kumar said the selection of eight proposals in a competitive national call recognised the institute’s scientific capabilities and research environment.
