Kanpur: Widespread rainfall on Tuesday brought much-needed relief from humid and sultry weather in Kanpur, with the city recording 40.2 mm of rain and a sharp fall of around 6°C in the maximum temperature on Tuesday compared to Monday.According to the Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA) observatory, the maximum temperature settled at 29°C, while the minimum temperature dropped to 23.6°C. The city experienced moderate showers from early morning until around 9.30 am., which later turned into light rain and drizzle. Another spell of moderate rainfall lashed several parts of the city for nearly 40 minutes around 5 pm.The persistent cloud cover throughout the day prevented bright sunshine, although brief sunny intervals were witnessed around 4 pm. The morning showers pushed the relative humidity to a high of 97 per cent, while the minimum humidity was recorded at 86 per cent. South-easterly winds blowing at speeds between 4 and 11.6 kmph further eased discomfort caused by the humid weather.CSA weather expert SN Sunil Pandey said increasing atmospheric moisture and the development of fresh weather systems are likely to keep the weather unstable across the Kanpur division over the next few days. He said the region is expected to witness cloudy skies from August 5 to 7, accompanied by intermittent light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and occasional spells of sunshine.Pandey added that intermittent sunshine may increase humidity levels. He further indicated the possibility of heavy rainfall in Kanpur Nagar, Unnao and Fatehpur within the next few hours. An orange alert has been issued for the affected districts. For Kanpur Nagar, the IMD has forecast cloudy skies with intermittent light rain or showers during the day and one or two spells of thunderstorms accompanied by rain during the night. Authorities have advised residents to remain alert, particularly during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
