Patna to get Syama Prasad Mookerjee park: CM

Patna: CM Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday paid floral tributes to Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his death anniversary at a programme organised at the BJP state office. He announced that a grand park named after Mookerjee would be developed in Patna and dedicated to the public on the same day next year.Samrat said Mookerjee’s vision for India was being realised under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He described the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir as a historic step towards fulfilling Mookerjee’s dream of strengthening the idea of One India, Supreme India. The CM said a coalition of around 27-28 parties had governed the country under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and a similar coalition now supports the Narendra Modi-led govt. He also described Modi as the country’s longest-serving elected prime minister.Samrat said Mookerjee’s life continued to inspire generations. “The nation will always remember his service and sacrifice. After Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, if there was any leader who worked to unite the country, it was Mookerjee, who realized the dream of an undivided India,” he said.Referring to Mookerjee’s opposition to the special status once enjoyed by Jammu and Kashmir, Samrat said the slogan, “two constitutions, two prime ministers, and two flags cannot coexist in one country”, was originally coined by him.Revenue and land reforms minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal said Mookerjee devoted his entire life to protecting the nation’s unity, integrity and cultural identity.“He was not merely a politician but also a visionary thinker and a figure who made significant contributions to education. He demonstrated his extraordinary talent by becoming the Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University at a very young age. In independent India, he consistently articulated clear and firm views on various crucial issues, always prioritising national interests,” he said.BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh, state general secretaries Nitin Abhishek and Preeti Shekhar, MLAs Ratnesh Kushwaha and Sanjay Gupta, state secretary Kumar Raghavendra and party media in-charge Danish Eqbal, among others, also paid tributes to Mookerjee.
