Dharwad: Veteran writer, poet, playwright, orator and critic Dr Gurunath Vithalrao Kulkarni, popularly known as GV Kulkarni, (Jeevi) died on Sunday Oct 4 at Mumbai. He was 91.Born on Oct 17, 1934, in Domnal in Vijayapura district, Dr Kulkarni had his early education in Hubballi and Gadag and his higher education in Dharwad. He obtained degrees in Kannada and Sanskrit, English and law, and a PhD for his thesis on the influence of Sri Aurobindo on VK Gokak.He worked as a teacher and principal at several colleges in Mumbai before retiring. His literary works included poetry collections, short stories, novels, plays and critical writings. His books Na Kanda Bendre and Samanvayacharya Gokak earned him wide recognition.A spiritual and yoga enthusiast, he also wrote on naturopathy. He contributed columns to several newspapers.He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.
