Ahead of the release of their brand-new sequel, ‘Practical Magic 2,’ lead stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock revisited what it was like to return to the sets and reprise their roles. The two also opened up about how their relationship with the first film has changed over the years.For context, when ‘Practical Magic’ was originally released, the film got a lot of mixed reviews and did not perform as well as it was expected to at the box office. However, now, years later, the film has become a cult classic and a fan favorite for many.

While in conversation with The Associated Press, Bullock commented on how the first film had left her dealing with a lot of trauma. She shared, “I had so much trauma from the press junket for the first one because it was brutal. We were not well-received because we were ‘too much,’ ‘too witchy,’ ‘too many women,’ and ‘too many tones.’ I’m like, ‘Have you lived a day in the life as a woman?’” Bullock further explained that because of all of this, she carried a lot of shame because of the film for the longest time.Kidman weighed in with her own opinion, sharing how the concept of magic and witches is being perceived in a better light because the community has started to reclaim the word positively. “The word is being taken back, and there’s ownership of it from the community,” she added, further sharing that the project remains deeply personal for her.The two also backed the project as producers and revealed during the interview that they had to keep everything under a budget. The two were also mindful of building the iconic Owens house under a certain amount of money in the London backlot.

About ‘Practical Magic 2’

The second film is based on author Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel, ‘The Book of Magic.’ Other than Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock reprising their original roles from the first film, the movie has also cast a few new faces along the way. This includes Joey King and Maisie Williams as Kylie and Antonia Owens.The film will be released in theaters in the US on September 10, with international and UK theatrical releases following on September 11 and September 18, 2026, in various regions.
