The upcoming comedy entertainer ‘Golmaal 5’ is set to surprise audiences with an unexpected casting twist. While the fifth instalment of Rohit Shetty’s blockbuster franchise already boasts a star-studded ensemble led by Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, a new report suggests that Priyamani will be seen in a negative role, marking a significant departure from her previous on-screen characters.The actress, who has impressed audiences with projects like ‘The Family Man’, ‘Article 370’ and ‘Yamadonga’, is reportedly set to play the film’s antagonist.
Priyamani takes on a villainous role
According to the reports by Variety India, Priyamani will portray a negative character in ‘Golmaal 5’. While plot details remain under wraps, the casting is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the comedy franchise. Known for her versatility, the National Award-winning actor has largely portrayed emotionally layered and powerful characters. Her reported transformation into the film’s primary antagonist is likely to add a new flavour to Rohit Shetty’s signature blend of humour and chaos.
A reunion with Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn
This isn’t Priyamani’s first collaboration with Rohit Shetty. She previously appeared in the energetic dance number ‘1 2 3 4 Get on the Dance Floor’ from Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s ‘Chennai Express’. She also shared screen space with Ajay Devgn in the sports drama ‘Maidaan’. With ‘Golmaal 5’, the actress reunites with both the filmmaker and the actor, this time in a completely different role.
A packed ensemble returns with ‘Golmaal 5’
Production on ‘Golmaal 5’ commenced in February 2026, with the makers announcing the start of filming through a video featuring the principal cast. Alongside Ajay Devgn, the film stars Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu and Sharman Joshi, who returns to the franchise after appearing in the first film. The film also brings back several fan-favourite actors, including Johny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari and Ashwini Kalsekar, promising another round of confusion, comedy and larger-than-life entertainment.
Two decades of the ‘Golmaal’ franchise
The journey of the franchise began with ‘Golmaal: Fun Unlimited’ in 2006 and has since grown into one of Bollywood’s most successful comedy series. Across its four films, the franchise has collectively earned more than Rs 600 crore at the worldwide box office. The makers are reportedly targeting an early 2027 theatrical release for ‘Golmaal 5’, which is expected to celebrate 20 years of the much-loved franchise with an even bigger ensemble and fresh surprises.
