MP asks Union minister to open Trichy ESI sub regional office
Trichy MP Durai Vaiko with Union labour minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Monday

Trichy: Trichy MP Durai Vaiko met Union labour and employment minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Monday and sought his intervention to operationalise the new Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) subregional office sanctioned for Trichy. The proposal was approved by the Union govt in Oct last year, but there is a delay in opening the office.ESIC floated a tender to identify a suitable office space in Trichy in Feb, and a building selection committee inspected all buildings considered to accommodate the new office. However, the proposal did not progress further. “The identification and finalisation of the suitable office building has not been completed even as several months have passed since the bidding process was closed,” the MP said in a letter submitted to the Union minister.Highlighting that the nine-year-old demand to bifurcate Salem SRO and form a new Trichy SRO covering delta districts has come a long way, the MP requested the direct intervention of the minister to open the office. The new office will cover Trichy, Thanjavur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Karur, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts.Durai Vaiko later said the minister assured him that the issue would be resolved at the earliest.
