The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another spell of intense monsoon activity across large parts of the country, issuing warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall over several states on Wednesday. The weather agency has cautioned that widespread rain, thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and localized flooding are likely to affect multiple regions over the coming days as active monsoon conditions continue.According to the IMD’s All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin issued on Thursday morning, very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Kerala & Mahe, Konkan & Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra on August 6. Heavy rainfall has also been forecast for several other states, including Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.The weather department said the active spell is expected to persist across many regions during the next several days. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh and Uttarakhand through August 11. Similar conditions are expected over Konkan & Goa, Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and parts of Central India during the forecast period.In northwest India, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to remain under persistent wet conditions. The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh from August 6 to 11, while Uttarakhand is expected to receive heavy rainfall from August 7 to 11. The department has also warned of isolated very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand on August 6. East Rajasthan is expected to witness heavy rainfall on August 6 and again on August 9 and 10, with very heavy rainfall likely on August 7 and 8. Heavy rainfall is also forecast over West Rajasthan between August 7 and 9.

The forecast indicates that Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are likely to experience widespread rainfall on August 6, accompanied by isolated heavy showers. East and West Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive significant rainfall, with isolated heavy rain forecast over East Uttar Pradesh on August 6 and West Uttar Pradesh on August 6 and 7.Across Central India, the IMD has predicted widespread rainfall over East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh through August 8, while West Madhya Pradesh is expected to experience widespread rainfall from August 7 to 9. Heavy rainfall is likely over West Madhya Pradesh on August 6 and 8, with very heavy rainfall expected on August 7. Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh are also likely to receive heavy rainfall on August 6 and 7.Eastern India is expected to remain under active monsoon conditions as well. Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are forecast to receive widespread rainfall over the coming days. The IMD has warned of isolated very heavy rainfall over Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal on August 6, while Odisha may witness very heavy rainfall on August 6 and again on August 9.In Northeast India, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura through much of the forecast period. Heavy rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya from August 6 to 11, while Arunachal Pradesh is expected to receive heavy rainfall on August 7 and again on August 10 and 11.Western India will also continue to experience monsoon showers. Konkan and Goa are expected to receive widespread rainfall through August 11, with isolated very heavy rainfall likely on August 6 and heavy rainfall on August 7. Madhya Maharashtra is also expected to receive heavy rainfall on August 7, with very heavy rainfall likely on August 6.In South Peninsular India, Kerala & Mahe, Coastal Karnataka and Lakshadweep are expected to witness widespread rainfall during the forecast period. The IMD has forecast isolated very heavy rainfall over Kerala & Mahe on August 6 and 7, while heavy rainfall is likely over Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Coastal Andhra Pradesh on various days through August 10.The IMD has also issued a low flash flood risk warning for parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours. Districts in Himachal Pradesh including Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan and Kinnaur, and several districts of Uttarakhand including Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Nainital, Almora, Pithoragarh and Champawat may experience surface runoff, inundation and localized flooding in low-lying areas due to expected rainfall.The department has cautioned that heavy to very heavy rainfall could trigger waterlogging, localised flooding, landslides, mudslides, reduced visibility and disruptions to road and rail traffic.
