Gurgaon: Sushant Lok phases 2 and 3 residents have complained that some of the streetlights installed by MCG have gone missing, while damaged pole foundations pose a safety risk.According to the RWA, at least 30 lights are missing from poles in Sushant Lok 2, and the situation is similar in Sushant Lok 3, where around 80-90 lights are either defunct or were never installed. “Diwali is just days away, and the corporation doesn’t even have lights to give. Some of those poles now have creepers growing over them, and more than 100 lights are non-functional across the two phases. We have already written the fourth reminder, but nobody listens,” said Pawan Kumar Yadav, RWA president of Sushant Lok 2 and 3.Residents say the problem has been persisting for the last six months. “Lights are taken down for repair and then never put back,” said Anurag Batra, a resident.Residents said the complaints began pouring into social media groups, prompting them to carry out their own survey of the area, which revealed the extent of the missing lights. Many lanes now stay dark after sunset, residents said, raising concerns about the safety of women, children and senior citizens, as well as the risk of theft and accidents during the festive season, when markets and streets see heavier footfall.Yadav said many poles are also in poor condition, with damaged foundations, and could fall at any time. He also blamed the failures of streetlights partly on underground cables laid about 25 years ago.Meanwhile, a senior MCG official said the tender for new lights has been issued and the work allotted. “There is some delay in inspection as we want to check first before accepting the supply from vendors, to ensure good quality lights,” he said, adding that lights that are fitted but defective will be repaired.
