Dumka: Four masked armed men allegedly looted Rs 2 lakh in cash, jewellery and an iPhone from the house of JMM member Onkar Nath Barnwal at Belabagan Forest Colony under Deoghar Town police station early on Friday, police said.Barnwal was away when the assailants scaled the boundary wall and entered the house through an open door. They held his mother, Girija Devi, wife Manju Devi and son Samrat hostage at gunpoint. Three of the intruders were carrying pistols, while the fourth was armed with a knife.Police said the knife-wielding assailant stabbed Manju in the hand after she told the gang that she did not have the key to an almirah. The intruders then broke open the almirah with an iron rod and allegedly took cash, gold bangles and other jewellery.The gang also allegedly forced Manju to remove her earrings, gold chain, ring and silver anklets. They took the earrings, gold chain and anklets of Barnwal’s mother, as well as a silver chain and bracelet worn by Samrat. His iPhone, reportedly worth around Rs 1.5 lakh, was also stolen.Samrat told police that the assailants communicated among themselves using code words. Family members said three of the men appeared to be below 30 years of age, while the knife-wielding man appeared to be around 40.Police suspect the gang may have approached the house from the direction of the Baidyanathdham-Jasidih railway tracks. Police were informed at around 2:15 am. Town police station officer in-charge Ravi Thakur reached the spot with a team and began an investigation. A pair of slippers was recovered from the scene.Barnwal’s wife was provided medical attention. Police examined possible entry points and questioned neighbours. Deoghar SDPO Kuldeep Kumar said efforts were under way to identify and arrest the suspects.
