Bhopal: Chunabhatti police on Tuesday registered a case of rape and sexual exploitation against a 21-year-old woman’s relative after she alleged that he had sexual relations with her for nearly 10 months on the promise of marriage.Police said the woman, who studied up to Class 9 and currently stays at home, had become friends with the accused, Arjun, on Instagram about a year ago. The two are relatives, police said.According to the complaint, Arjun allegedly promised to marry her and called her to a hotel. In October 2025, he allegedly had sexual relations with her for the first time and assured her that they would marry soon.The woman told police that Arjun recently got engaged to another woman. When she confronted him and asked him to marry her, he allegedly refused, saying that he could remain only her friend.She reportedly tried to persuade him to marry her, but he remained firm in his refusal. Following this, she approached Chunabhatti police and lodged a complaint. Police have registered a case under relevant provisions and started an investigation.
