Kozhikode: IUML has instructed its elected representatives to avoid lavishness and interact with the public with humility. Party functionaries also urged them to avoid arrogance of power in their work and focus more on development activities.The directions were issued to ministers and MLAs at a review meeting held at Safi College in Vazhayur, Malappuram. The meeting, held from 10am to noon, assessed the performance of the party’s elected representatives so far.IUML state president Panakkad Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal advised ministers and elected representatives to exercise caution while speaking in public and before the media. He urged them to avoid controversies, maintain their connect with the people and ensure that their statements were not open to misinterpretation by the public. He also asked them to be more careful with their social media posts and public interactions.Experts conducted orientation classes on development projects to be undertaken in the constituencies and across the state. The party directed its representatives to prepare development plans based on the discussions.The meeting of elected representatives, including ministers, called by the party brass assumed significance in the backdrop of recent controversies involving the party and its ministers. Local self-govt minister K M Shaji’s use of a luxury SUV belonging to a businessman had turned into a controversy. The party had even reportedly sought an explanation from Shaji.Meanwhile, the latest controversy over alleged disagreements within UDF over appointments to key posts was also up for discussion in the meeting. IUML brass had expressed displeasure after UDF convener Adoor Prakash publicly raised concerns relating to some of the appointments.According to sources, a party meeting was held ahead of the review session, which discussed these issues and other matters like the PM SHRI issue. The brass also decided to review the performance of ministers and MLAs at regular intervals.Panakkad Abbasali Shihab Thangal, P K Kunhalikutty, M K Muneer, Munavarali Shihab Thangal, KPA Majeed and PMA Salam, among others, attended the meeting.
