Buxar: Excise department on Sunday night busted a liquor smuggling racket operating under the guise of a postal parcel service and seized 844.2 litres of Haryana-made foreign liquor worth around Rs 10 lakh during a vehicle check near the new Veer Kunwar Singh Setu in Buxar district.Officials intercepted a pickup van bearing a “Postal Parcel” marking after it aroused suspicion during routine checking. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 95 cartons containing 844.2 litres of foreign liquor.Two alleged smugglers were arrested on the spot and the vehicle was seized. During interrogation, the accused reportedly told officials that the consignment had originated in Jalandhar, Punjab, and was being transported to Purnia in Bihar.Excise superintendent Ashraf Jamal said the operation was carried out under the supervision of sub-inspector Prince Kumar. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested men, while efforts are underway to identify others linked to the smuggling network. The seized liquor and vehicle have been taken into custody.
