Haveri: Heavy rain lashed parts of Haveri district on Monday, leading to two lightning-related incidents in Savanur taluk. In Chikkamaralihalli village, farmer Doddahanumantappa Ningappa Ritti, 60, died after lightning struck him while he was in his field. According to reports, he had gone to work and took shelter under a tree when rain began. However, lightning struck him, killing him instantly. Savanur police visited the scene after receiving information, conducted an inspection, and registered a case at Savanur police station. In Hiremugadur village, five goats were killed in a similar incident during afternoon rain. The animals belonged to Lakshman Kattekar, a nomadic shepherd from Honnur village in Bailhongal taluk. He had left them to graze on farmland owned by Kanavalli. When the rain started, the goats gathered under a tree, and were struck by lightning.
