Life term to Deoria man in 2021 murder case

Lucknow: A court in Deoria sentenced Vakil Prasad (35) to life imprisonment for the murder of Rahul, who was stabbed and had his throat slit following an old dispute in Tiwai village under Rudrapur police station limits in 2021.Additional District and Sessions Judge Narendra Nath Tripathi convicted Prasad in the murder case and imposed a ₹50,000 fine. The court ordered that in case of non-payment of the fine, the convict would undergo an additional two years of simple imprisonment. The court also convicted Prasad under the Arms Act, sentencing him to two years of simple imprisonment and imposing an additional fine of ₹5,000.The incident took place at around 6 am on July 14, 2021, in Tiwai village of Rudrapur area. According to the prosecution, Rahul, a resident of the same village, had gone to an orchard near the Saiyad Baba shrine to attend to his daily routine. While he was there, Prasad, reportedly acting out of an old enmity, attacked him with a knife. The prosecution said the accused repeatedly stabbed Rahul before slitting his throat. Rahul sustained severe injuries and died at the spot.Following the murder, police launched an investigation and inspected the crime scene. Statements of eyewitnesses and other witnesses were recorded during the probe. Investigators also collected the post-mortem report and other evidence before filing a chargesheet against Prasad before the court.During the trial, the prosecution produced witnesses before the court and presented documentary and other evidence related to the case. The court examined the witness statements, post-mortem findings and other material placed on record.After considering the evidence, the court found Vakil Prasad guilty of Rahul’s murder. He was convicted under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced to life imprisonment with a ₹50,000 fine.
