HYDERABAD: A 33-year-old chartered accountant allegedly died by suicide by inhaling helium gas in Telangana’s Siddipet district after suffering heavy financial losses in gambling, police said on Wednesday.As per news agency PTI, the deceased, a native of Siddipet district, was employed with a firm in Hyderabad, a senior police official said. He was found dead in a hotel room on Tuesday.According to the official, the man purchased a helium gas cylinder along with related equipment from Balanagar in Hyderabad. He allegedly used a mask to inhale the gas and ended his life in a hotel room in Siddipet on August 1. The official added that he had watched videos on YouTube about the method.Police said the hotel staff alerted authorities on August 4 after the guest failed to respond to repeated knocks on the door. Officers reached the hotel, entered the room through a window and found him lying dead.A suicide note was recovered from the room in which the deceased purportedly stated that he had decided to end his life after losing money in gambling, police said.Based on the preliminary investigation, the official said the man was addicted to gambling and had suffered significant financial losses.Police further said that although his relatives had helped him to some extent in dealing with the financial losses, he had also sold his flat in Hyderabad.(With agency inputs)
